We encourage families to have fun

If you want great photos that make your family look really natural, then you need to have an enjoyable time. As you can see from these photos we encouraged the family to lark around however they wished – we do this for two reasons:

  • these make for great photos in a family photo album, as these really bring out the character of your loved ones,
  • but it also allows us to create a separate set of even better photos that you’ll love to display on your walls and around your home.

Let children show their personality

We  like to find out the hobbies and interests of those in our family photoshoots, as it makes for some interesting extra photos. During this photoshoot we quickly found out this young lady was a dancer and her brother was a skateboarder. So of course we encouraged them to do each to give the family some extra photos for their family album, which they hadn’t anticipated.

Loving son and daughter

Dad and son, plus mum and daughter – both very special combinations. We try not to over-pose people, as we’d prefer you to look as natural as possible. So with families we try to do what we call ‘Light Posing’, where we’ll slightly guide you into the position and pose, but we’ll then try and encourage you to ‘own it’, as this family have done here, where they look really natural and comfortable.

Elegant and stylish portraits

We did this photoshoot in two locations – one urban, with artificial backgrounds, and the other in a rural setting, where the backgrounds were more natural greens. We also worked with two different outfits. This gave us a great variety of combinations, each with a very different feel to them.

Jumping Jane

We love it when we work with people who are game for giving things a try, as was the case here. This photo was taken during the middle of the day, but we deliberately played with the lighting to make it look like night-time, to add a lot of drama to this energetic and stylish photo.

Two brothers in the park

Sometimes a simple portrait with a blurred background is the best, like these photos here. Both brothers were wearing casual blue shirts, so these worked really well against the blurred green backgrounds from the park which means, when their mum and dad look at these photos, they’ll concentrate on the faces of their sons, rather than looking at the background.

Having fun during an outdoor family photoshoot

There’s no point in having a photoshoot for children unless they enjoy it – if they don’t, then they won’t look relaxed in the photos. Helping them get comfortable allows us to create some great natural expressions that are so much more natural than they’d have been otherwise. If they start playing around it’s even better as their character naturally shines through – it’s these little things that parents want to remember.

Halloween fancy dress

Posted on

As Halloween approached we were asked to take some themed, seasonal portrait photos of a young girl wearing halloween-themed fancy dress. The pumpkin is a great accessory, as it says ‘Halloween’ immediately.

Although the Christmas photoshoot is the most common seasonal photoshoot, we’re beginning to find we find more families are choosing to have a Halloween Photoshoot. Now that Halloween has become so much more popular over recent years, families are keen to create some lasting Halloween memories with their children.
