We encourage families to have fun

Posted on

If you want great photos that make your family look really natural, then you need to have an enjoyable time. As you can see from these photos we encouraged the family to lark around however they wished – we do this for two reasons:

  • these make for great photos in a family photo album, as these really bring out the character of your loved ones,
  • but it also allows us to create a separate set of even better photos that you’ll love to display on your walls and around your home.

Evening photoshoot of a couple in love

This first set of photos are amongst our favourites from this photoshoot, where they’re both looking beautifully posed in a natural way.

This second set shows the type of things we then did to get some more informal and fun photos of this couple having a laugh together.

We use this approach as it makes sure our customers have a beautiful set of quality artwork they can hang on their walls. But it means they also have some more informal photos that really show off their character – they often have these displayed in an album.

We like to encourage a fun photoshoot

If you’ve seen our Beautiful portrait photos of a young girl post, then you’ll have seen how great those photos are – they’re beautiful wall art to display around their home. But to do this we encouraged this young lady to lark about as much as possible in between the ‘proper’ photos. We always find that doing this allows children to trust us a lot more, as they know they can be themselves.

Here are some examples of what we mean. These photos are great in a fabulous album, which the family can look at for years to come as their daughter grows older, as they really show off her fun personality.

Jumping Jane

We love it when we work with people who are game for giving things a try, as was the case here. This photo was taken during the middle of the day, but we deliberately played with the lighting to make it look like night-time, to add a lot of drama to this energetic and stylish photo.

Summer family photoshoot of a teenage family

Posted on

This family of five was an older family, with a range of teenagers. We find teenagers tend to approach photoshoots in two different ways:

  • if they’re the ones who requested the photoshoot, they’ll be the keenest people in the world,
  • but if they’ve been ‘encouraged’ to come along, then they’re much more likely to hold back and be ‘not bothered’.

However, we find both sets of teenagers are the same – they’re both super-interested if we get them involved. We therefore do what we always do with children of all ages – get to know them and ask what they want to get out of the photoshoot and what they would like.

In this family, for example, the daughter was keen from the outset on getting involved, however, the two sons were really not interested in the slightest. We therefore did the ‘proper’ photos first – those shown below – that the parents and daughter were keen to have. Afterwards we changed our approach to do what all three siblings wanted (which you can see in this other post – The stylish teenagers).

Having a laugh during a couples photoshoot

Once we’d finished the main photos with this couple, we thought we’d have some fun. We started with a running jump, which wasn’t quite as successful as we’d hoped, but it was such a laugh by the time we’d finished. We then moved onto a piggy back, then finally a loving photo to finish off.

Acrobatics in the park

At this family photoshoot in the park we let this confident young lady dictate a lot of what we were doing – this included showing us the various things gymnastics things she could do…

Our approach paid off, because this kept her engaged for long enough that we were able to get some great family portraits afterwards, as you can see in this other post – A beautiful family photoshoot in the summer.

We like to have fun at our photoshoots

We know that most people are nervous at the thought of a photoshoot – particularly when they arrive and meet someone they’ve never met before. This lady was fairly quiet when we met, and a little anxious about the photoshoot we were about to do together. Therefore, during the first half of the photoshoot we took our time to get to know each other, giving her a lot of direction on how to pose.

After a while, once she’d seen some of the photos we were creating, she began to trust us and she became happy to try out some more informal things. We agreed to spend a few minutes just having some fun, so this willing participant had a great time doing some fabulous jumping poses during this photoshoot, which we feel look so good and really show off her inner personality.

Did someone say anxious and lacking in confidence?!?!
